Arrancamos la segunda mitad del año, y vale la pena revisar el ranking Alianzo y la categoría BLOGS DE EMPRENDEDORES, en la cual entre los primeros 50 encontramos 8 españoles y 2 argentinos. Si bien más de un emprendedor con merecimientos quedaría fuera, la clasificiación nos sirve para elaborar un subjetivo TOP 10 de Blogs de Emprendedores Hispanos.

Martín Varsavsky: empresario argentino ampliamente arraigado a España y sus negocios: Fundador de Jazztel y Fon e inversionista en proyectos como Xing, Wikio, Netvibes e Hipertextual. también es socio controlador del parque ecológico El Moralejo y la empresa Proesa.

Julio Alonso: abogado, empresario y blogger, fundador y CEO de la red de blogs lider en el mercado hispano Weblogs SL. Antes de dedicarse de tiempo a su compañía fue fundador y socio-director de Intélica Venture Management y consultor para Value Partners.

Juan Luis Hortelano: emprendedor e involucrado desde Valencia en proyectos de Internet: Director de Kanben Consulting y socio tanto de Fivelabs como de Medios y Redes. Participa también como consejero en Migoa y profesor invitado en la Universidad Politécnica de su ciudad.

Rogelio Bernal: español residente en San Francisco California; fundador y CTO de Blablia Inc e involucrado en EListas, coRank y la plataforma para blogs Zoomblog. Anteriormente trabajó para netscape y Ebay.

Jesús Encinar: fundador y director general de idealista.com (portal imbobiliario lider en España); anteriormente se desenvolvió como Consulting Director en Wolff Olins, Senior Consultant en Mitchell Madison Group.

Carlos Blanco: empresario pionero en el sector de Internet en España, es fundador y director general de Grupo ITNet, a la que pertenece Ocio Media Interactiva, su compañía más representativa. Entre sus pasiones también se cuenta el mundo domainer, siendo poseedor de una carpeta de 15,000.

Alex Dantart: socio fundador y gerente de Sync, empresa dedicada al servicio de hosting y dominios (y de la que se desprende también Zync, gestión de artículos patrocinados en blogs.) Colabora en la sección de Internet del periódico Heraldo de Aragón.

Fernando Polo: ingeniero madrileño que se desempeña como Chief Operations Officer de Webactiva (desde el 2007) y socio tanto del periódico online y gestor de contenidos en línea LastInfoo -junto a Luis G. de la Fuente- como en Territorio Creativo.

Ricardo Galli: argentino radicado en Palma de Mallorca desde 1991, donde además de concluir sus estudios -doctorado en Informática- ha desarrollado su vida profesional como profesor universitario y desarrollador del popular agregador de noticias en español Meneame.

David de Ugarte: Involucrado a tiempo completo en trabajos, proyectos y emprendimientos en Internet desde 1994, fundador de Piensa en Red y actualmente socio junto a Juan Urrutia y Natalia Fernández de la sociedad de las Indias Electrónicas. Involucrado en el desarrollo de la aplicación web Feevy.

I have now packaged up the Hoard Hunter plugin and theme ready for downloading and will aim to get them available on the site tomorrow afternoon. There is currently a small bug in the PayPal integration class, so purchased sectors have to be manually approved, but hopefully I will have it tracked down before the release (if not then the first release will have it disabled).

From time to time, potential users of AWS ask me about the best way to set up a highly scalable architecture using Amazon EC2, S3, SimpleDB, and SQS. I'd like to challenge readers of this blog to document their AWS-powered architectures in a blog post, preferably with a diagram, and to leave comments with a link back to their posts. I'll collect them all up in a future post.

Here are a few that I have already:

Doug Kaye described the architecture behind GigaVox Audio Lite in his post, Amazon for Infrastructure-on-Demand. Doug used EC2, S3, and SQS to build the highly scalable podcast processing system behind The Conversations Network.

Doug's implementation regulates the number of EC2 instances in use by tracking the amount of time it takes to process each work item in the queues which drive the Transcoding and Assembly processes.

Don MacAskill described SmugMug's master controller (SkyNet) in SkyNet Lives! (aka EC2 @ SmugMug). Don's post doesn't include a block diagram, but it does include a cool usage graph (included at right).

Don's master controller watches 30 to 50 factors in order to make high quality scaling decisions. It was called RubberBand until it became sentient and attempted to take over the world launch several hundred Extra-Large EC2 instances simultaneously. It was then renamed SkyNet.

The architecture behind online social media dating site Zoosk is described in Elastic Computing with Amazon Web Service, written by Zoosk CEO Shayan Zadeh.

Per the blog post, they use SQS to maintain a queue of uploaded photos. The photos are processed on EC2 and then uploaded to S3. The graph in the blog post indicates that they are adding approximately 4 TB of new photos every month.

The AWS Developer Connection has some worthwhile how-to articles as well. In Monster Muck Mashup - Mass Video Conversion Using AWS, Mitch Garnaat shows how to use SQS, EC2, and S3 to do video conversion in a scalable way.

The article Auto-scaling Amazon EC2 with Amazon SQS also has a whole lot of really good information.
